The Free Months Are Real Money

Bizee, which operated as Incfile for most of its life, includes registered agent coverage with its formation packages at no charge. The included stretch runs anywhere from three months to a full twelve depending on which package you buy. If you were forming a North Carolina LLC anyway, that is a genuine saving on something the law requires you to have from the day the Articles of Organization are accepted, and it lands in the exact stretch when a new company has the least money. We are not going to talk you out of taking it.

The Part That Needs a Calendar Entry

The included window ends. When it does, standalone agent service from Bizee bills at $149 a year, and it keeps billing $149 a year after that. Nothing is concealed about this; the standalone rate is published. The failure mode is not deception, it is memory. A benefit that expires quietly, on a date set by a package you chose months earlier and have not thought about since, is a benefit that turns into a recurring charge you never actually evaluated.

North Carolina makes the timing especially awkward, and this part is worth sitting with. Your LLC's first annual report is not owed in the year you organize. It is owed on April 15 of the following year, under N.C.G.S. § 57D-2-24(b), at a base fee of $200, or $202 by ACH and $203 by card if you file it online and the state's processor adds its charge. So a company formed in the spring or summer often hits its first $200 state bill and the end of its free agent months inside the same few weeks. Two invoices you did not budget for, arriving together, in a season when the business is barely a year old.

Two Practical Suggestions

First, find out today which package you actually bought and what the expiry date is. Three months and twelve months are very different purchases, and the difference is not printed on anything you will be sent later.

Second, decide what you want the seat to cost afterward, while you still have time to arrange it calmly rather than in response to a renewal email.

$99 a year, and $99 again at renewal, with no bundled period that ends and no standalone rate waiting behind it. The service is a single item: legal process arriving at our North Carolina office gets scanned that same business day and dropped into your portal, an email tells you it is there, our street address rather than yours appears on the state record, and reminders go out ahead of that April 15 deadline so the $200 never surprises you.

On price we will say the accurate thing rather than the flattering one. BetterLegal lists $90 a year, below our figure, so nobody should call us the cheapest option in North Carolina. What we will defend is that $99 sits in the lowest band of flat annual pricing here and does not move once you are enrolled.

Switching Off Bizee Takes One $5 Filing

North Carolina prices this move at $5. The document is Form BE-06, a statement of change that swaps the registered agent, the registered office, or both, submitted to the Secretary of State, and our guide to changing agents covers every field on it.

The one thing to get right is sequence. Line up the new agent, file the form, confirm the state record has updated, and only then let the Bizee relationship end. If you let the free window simply lapse without filing anything, your company keeps showing an agent whose contract has expired, and North Carolina expects that line to be filled without interruption. Free running out is not the same event as being replaced.

Do it inside the included months if you can. Nothing is lost by moving early, and it removes the possibility of month thirteen deciding the matter for you.
